わたしは、この子のためにおもちゃを鳴らした、それはきゅうっと鳴った
わたしは、ぶらんこをゆすり、歌をうたった
わたしは、この子に、していいこととわるいことを、教えた

ほんとにいったい一日何をしていたのかな
たいしたことはしなかったね、たぶん、それはほんと
でもこう考えれば、いいんじゃない？

澄んだ目をした、髪のふわふわな、この子のために
すごく大切なことをしていたんだって

無理くり日本で例えるなら、小澤征爾が指揮をとるNHK交響楽団の前で、電気グルーブの石野卓球がDJをし、そこに新しい天皇陛下が即位するようなイベントで、ステージ上で天皇陛下と石野卓球が握手しているところを想像して欲しい。"

"俺んちが最初にVHSビデオデッキを買ったのは1980年ごろ
三菱のファンタス22Ｇ、ラジカセみたいにカセットも縦に入れた
持ち運びしやすいようハンドルもついていた
というのもオプションでビデオカメラがあって、カメラ部とデッキ部として外に持ち出せた
しかしカメラだけで25万円もするシロモノで、あわせて50万ぐらいした
父は爺ちゃんからこっぴどく怒られていた『こんな高いもん買いおいって、このバカモンがあ』と
父は以前より8ミリ（フィルムね）を愛好していたが、地方ではフィルムが入手困難になりつつあり
ビデオテープに記録するほうがよかったのだそうだ
まあ、それでも俺と父は二人でいろんなものを撮影した、俺はデッキを持って父のカメラをついていく
ホワイトバランスも調整しないと色がおかしくなるから、画用紙をもつのが俺の役割

そして、ひい婆ちゃんがいつも俺たちのビデオ撮影の格好のターゲットだった
動画で撮ってるなんてよくわかってないので、緊張せずにカメラの前でスラスラ昔のことを話すのは
ひい婆ちゃんだけだったのだ

そして3年後、ひい婆ちゃんが亡くなった、94歳の大往生であった
もう25年も経つが、今でもひい婆ちゃんの映像が残っている
そして、それを大事に保管しているのが、もっとも怒っていた爺ちゃんだ
いまでもそのビデオを見るたびに爺ちゃんは目に涙を浮かべて、
ありがとうありがとうと父に感謝している

そんな爺ちゃんを俺が今ハイビジョンで撮影している、インタビューするは息子の仕事だ"

その後の８６年間で、下のビーカーに落ちたピッチはわずか８滴。６１年に実験を引き継いだジョン・メインストーン教授によると、今後数カ月、あるいは「もしかしたら数週間」のうちに、９滴目が落ちる見通しだという。

実験はウェブカメラを通して常時見ることができるが、何時間見つめ続けても変化はない。メインストーン教授は１日に５～６回様子を見るほか、パソコン上でウェブカメラの映像を流しているものの、しずくはわずか１０分の１秒の間に落ちる。教授自身もこれまで、その瞬間を目撃したことはないという。

７９年には、普段は欠かさない日曜日のチェックをたまたま省略したタイミングで一滴。８８年にはたった５分間、軽食を取りに行っている間に逃した。前回の００年はカメラを設置しておいたのに、故障で何も映っていなかった。

"先程バイトの面接に来た大学生が履歴書の特技欄にPC関係と書いていたので「ワードとエクセルはどの位使える？」と訊ねたら「そうじゃなくてネット関係です。twitterでフォロワー千人以上いますよ」とドヤ顔で答えられた。現在四回生で就活中との事だが、寧ろ小学校から勉強し直すべきだろう。"
